2015 Manifesto: Empirical Cycles & Machine Co. "Addressing Particular Aesthetic & Functional Transportation Needs in Dynamic and Accessible Ways

"To Improve Reality in any way is by far the greatest Art,
The Great Mystery is in the Theory of Improvement."
                                                                       -J.L.B.

Any attempt made to improve the Bicycle in any way is in itself perhaps the noblest of adventures: to be able to improve upon the simplest and most efficient machine ever invented, –a machine that turns its rider into the most energy-efficient living organism on the planet,–even in the slightest, is an immensely important task, worthy of the highest levels of praise, appreciation, admiration, and fame.

However, as a bicycle designer and builder, by far the most difficult (and timely) task at hand is to make the bicycle Desirable once again; as a machine, as a vehicle, as a solution; as a vehicle for personal expression of all kinds, and as a vehicle for personal and physical motivation. Times have obviously changed since the bicycle first became a popular cultural icon among the elite in the bustling European cities. The bicycle, throughout the world, has played many roles; it's been forgotten, raced, thrown away, played around with; it's been considered obsolete, a child's toy, or personal fitness equipment. –Never before has it been what it is now: a way to transform the Individual as well as the Aesthetics & Mechanics of a Society, a Culture, and the Environment; the Climate, the Political landscape, and the longevity of Life, –all into a state of Wellness and seamless integration never before known. The humble Bicycle has the Power to Improve the Aesthetics & Mechanics of the Urban Jungle, (where the majority of us live) and prolong our future as a Species on this planet. We just need to recognize this and adopt it as a Truth...Sound extreme?

–Good, because it is.

Those who build, design, promote, endorse, sell, repair and ride Bicycles for Transportation are far more than the sum of their parts. We are Idealists. This is "Empirical Emergence" under our very noses. We see the world as....."it should be"; as we desire it to be,  and so we do nothing but set out to make it so. And how "should the World be"? –a phrase that should at least infuriate a high percentage of readers–: Sustainable; a place where all living things can live in Harmony with each other; where life can continue until the Sun explodes. We bicycle makers see The Bicycle as not only one of the more effective tools for re-creating the urban landscape into one a little quieter, cleaner, saner, pleasant, and above all, more beautiful; but as absolutely necessary.

2015 marks Empirical Cycles' commitment to this task: the task of focusing on the Transportation Bicycle,–making them both beautiful and accessible; bicycles that are able to Transform, Express, and Motivate.

"A Cycle is only Complete when the Art transcends itself and enters into a Reality. Seamless Integration is what all Living Beings are after, weather or not we know it or even agree with it."
